Remapping is a way to enhance the power or fuel economy or even both of the vehicles Ecu by safely
altering some of the settings.
All manufacturers supply a generic ECU map for each vehicle that is designed to meet the requirements
like emissions regulations, climates and fuel qualities in all the continents and countries they sell that
vehicle too. However, here in the UK and mainland Europe we are able to unlock the true potential of a
vehicle by adjusting the map file and to take advantage of the environments and the good quality fuels
we have.
We do not change the hardware in your vehicle ecu, we only modify the operating parameters in the
ECU’s ‘map’. In most cases the map stored on the ECU’s can be accessed via the on-board diagnostics
port (OBD). In some newer models the ECU may have to be taken from the vehicle and the casing
opened up, the technician will then use a specialist tool to read the original map straight from the
processing chip rather than from the OBD socket.
The technician will then upload the original map to our remapping team who will then adjust the
parameters to maximize the performance, fuel economy or even a blend of both. Depending on the
vehicle and ECU type, the remapping process can take up to two hours we recommend you inform your
insurance company of any alterations made to your vehicle.
